Resurrections

So today marks a beautiful moment in life…. I got to take my bike out for the first time in what seems like a decade. It was about fifty degrees and I got to resurrect my soul and faith in the universe. Oh, and speaking of resurrection, I watched the pilot episode for ABC‘s new show “Resurrection” and it was amazing! The show is centered around the idea of people who were believed to be long-since perished showing up without aging at all. Imagine that you lost a child when you were in your 20’s and that same child showed up thirty years later…. still an eight-year-old child. How would that unexplainable miracle affect your life? Would it be a blessing, as  you have your child back? Or would it be a burden as it would be too difficult to process? These questions and more are brought to the forefront of this compelling drama, underscored beautifully by the compositions of a Mr. Blake Neely. I’m excited to see the next episode which airs Sunday nights at 8/9 c on ABC. I highly recommend it. Oh, and I’m working on a BITCHIN’ sculpture of an insect right now. I love the 3-dimensional freedom gifted by the god of sculpture!

More Amazing Shows Coming Up.

So just when I thought I couldn’t be more excited about TV, what with Jim Henson’s Creature Challenge and Kitchen Nightmares coming up, I see that there is a new season of Mad Men coming up soon. I lurve Mad Men. It’s so juicy and good. Plus, I get to stare at Christina Hendricks, who I will fully admit to having a lady-crush on. Another amazing show premiering is National Geographic’s Cosmos. It looks like Planet Earth, but about outer space. Umm…. amazing? Yes! Nothing gets this sci-fi gal mesmerized like beautiful images of galaxies, nebula, and the final frontier…… and Christina Hendricks.

“I Can’t Make You Love Me”

I was watching Adele’s Live At Royal Albert Hall concert and I came across a song that really struck a nerve. Adele covered Bonnie Ray’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, and to quote the Brit herself, “it’s fucking stunning.” It’s so moving and so well done. Now, I have an interesting relationship with music. Growing up I was never encouraged to cry or talk to my family or friends about anything deep. It was just shut your mouth and, “Oh well. Move on.” I soon discovered a companion in music because you were allowed and even encouraged to be vulnerable. There wasn’t the ever-looming certainty that you would be mocked or made fun of. As an adult I am learning that music is often an identifying factor of something I’ve been through. It’s the left over conversation from a long time friend that listens to me. It empathizes and agrees with me. It understands me. It unlocks me and takes away one story from a book of burden. It never lies to me or deceives me in any way. It never does me wrong. It is a constant comfort. Music and all it’s unrelenting kinship will never cease to amaze me.

Oscar Night

So, the show has been pretty good so far. I just have to give two shout outs tonight. First is for the new Oscar winner for best original score. Steven Price took home my favorite trophy of the entire awards season for his work on the film Gravity. I’ve only sampled a few of the tracks, but it’s beautiful and it echos one of my favorite sounds ever: outer space. Ooh, I can’t wait to sit down, put on the headphones and be transported to the final frontier. The second shout out of the night goes to Pink for giving a flawless performance of the classic tune, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. It was so refined and the more I hear performers like Pink or Adele who give incredible performances without constant vocal acrobatics, the more I respect them. It’s not that I don’t love my Xtina and her finger-waving, but there is a lot of presence in the absence of nonsense. Oh! And Cate Blanchett is the most epically badass woman of all time. Just saying.
